Kenwood Launches New eXcelon Shallow Subwoofers And A Premium OEM Replacement Speaker System

Kenwood USA announced the introduction of two new high-performance shallow subwoofer models as well as a premium OEM replacement speaker system engineered and produced exclusively for the Kenwood Excelon retailer network.

The XR-W12F ($350.00 suggested retail price) is a 13-inch subwoofer model that can be installed in a standard 12-inch woofer cutout due to a unique basket geometry that provides extra mounting area for the cone/surround assembly while maintaining a standard 12-inch cutout diameter. The oversized carbon glass-fiber cone is held in place by a heavy-duty rubber surround, and this combination allows for better control of cone excursion under high power operation. A new dual ventilation system provides exceptional heat dissipation and allows for extremely shallow applications even if the vented pole piece is partially obstructed by the enclosure. Unlike most competitive woofer designs, the dual ventilation system works together with the aero-shaped basket to allow air to move freely away from the back of the cone assembly, further reducing the distorting effect of trapped air and resulting in a very linear bass response. The XR-W12F is equipped with push-style terminals that can accept 8 AWG-sized premium speaker cable. Power handling capability of the XR-W12F is 450 watts RMS (at 4 ohms), 1,500 watts peak.

Kenwood XR-W10F

The 11-inch version of the XR-W12F is the XR-W10F ($330.00 suggested retail price), which can be installed in a standard 10-inch cutout. The XR-10F has all of the features, materials and technologies of XR-W12F but in a smaller package. Power handling capability of the XR-W10F is 350 watts RMS (at 4 ohms), 1,200 watts peak.

The first factory-replacement speaker system in the Kenwood Excelon lineup is the KFC-X183C ($180.00 suggested retail price). This model is designed to fit into factory speaker locations ranging from 6 ½ -inch up to 6x9-inch through the use of a multi-application mounting adaptor. This allows the KFC-X183C to replace lesser-performing factory speakers in Chevrolet, GM, Toyota, Dodge, Chrysler and many other vehicle brands. The KFC-X183C is a 180mm (approximately 7.1-inch) two-way speaker system with a 1-inch soft-dome tweeter and diamond-array pattern woofer cone. The sound quality and power handling performance of the KFC-X183C is dramatically better than factory-installed speakers due to the larger, circular woofer and the higher-quality soft-dome tweeter. Power handling capability of the KFC-X183C is 80 watts RMS (at 4 ohms), 280 watts peak.

The XR-W12F, XR-W10F and KFC-X183C come with a two-year manufacturer’s limited warranty and are available only through authorized Kenwood Excelon retailers.
