Kenwood Launches New Add-On HD Radio Tuner With iTunes Tagging Feature

Kenwood USA Corporation announced the introduction of the newest in HD Radio tuner technology that provides digital multicasting as well as iTunes Tagging.

The KTC-HR300 ($150.00 suggested retail price) is a convenient add-on module that allows the owner of an “HD Radio-ready” Kenwood in-dash electronic component to upgrade their AM/FM tuner section for receipt of radio signals broadcasting in the HD Radio format. Over 1,800 stations are broadcasting in the HD Radio format as of December 2008 according to iBiquity, the inventor of HD Radio technology.

The KTC-HR300 connects to any multimedia or CD receiver source unit, through either Kenwood’s Advanced Bus (KAB) or through 5L CD changer control connections. The KTC-HR300 will receive the primary HD Radio signal as well as up to three additional “multicast” channels on the same frequency. These HD channels contain content specific to HD Radio and can include artist interviews, additional music, special events, etc. Text that is broadcast alongside the content will be displayed on the front panel of the Kenwood in-dash unit and can include song title, artist, album title or music genre.

New for 2009 is the iTunes Tagging feature, which allows the user to “bookmark” a desired song heard on the radio for later online purchase if the compatible Kenwood in-dash model has an iPod connected through the bus system. The iPod is used to store the bookmark and to later access the music file on iTunes when connected to the user’s home PC.
