New Type-R And Type-S Speakers From Alpine Electronics

Alpine has redesigned two of their speaker line-ups for easier installation and better performance than their predecessors. With 12 new product offerings, the Type-R and Type-S speakers have been meticulously designed to meet the needs of car audio enthusiasts. The Type-R family of speakers is totally new and uses a smaller, more powerful magnet that results in a smaller speaker for easier installation. Type-S speakers are ideal speaker upgrades that fit easily in stock speaker locations.

New Type-R Speakers

The Type-R lineup consists of two component speakers (SPR-60C 6.5-inch 2-way and SPR-50C 5.25-inch 2-way) and four coaxial speakers (SPR-60 6.5-inch 2-way, SPR-50 5.25-inch 2-way, SPR-69 6x9-inch 2-way, SPR-68 6x8-inch 2-way). Thanks to a smaller neodymium magnet and strong yet light HD polymer frame, Type-R speakers are compact and lighter for streamlined applications in various locations throughout a vehicle. Even the component speaker’s in-line crossover network (which includes four levels of tweeter adjustment) tucks away easily since it is 75 percent smaller than the previous iterations. The new type-R speakers are also much more efficient, allowing them to perform well with either built-in head unit power or aftermarket outboard amplifiers.

Alpine SPR-60C

In terms of sound, the Type-R has taken a huge step forward with High-Amplitude Multi-Roll (HAMR) technology (patent pending), adapted from Alpine’s popular Type-R subwoofers, which provides clean, high-impact bass performance. The patented linear drive motor design uses a neodymium magnet and square-wire voice coil to provide linear motion over an extremely wide excursion range. The wave guide optimizes the acoustic impedance for smooth response and enhanced vocal clarity, both on and off axis. The ring tweeter with EQ ring and copper cap enhances both detail and output, while the swivel mount allows the sound to be focused for the best in-car performance.

New Type-S Speakers

The Type-S lineup consists of one component speaker (SPS-610C 6.5-inch 2-way) and five coaxial speakers (SPS-610 6.5-inch 2-way, SPS-510 5.25-inch 2-way, SPS-410 4-inch 2-way, SPS-619 6x9-inch 2-way, SPS-517 5x7-inch 2-way). Available in a wide range of sizes, the Type-S speakers are ideal replacements for factory speakers and are highly efficient so they can run off the built-in power from a factory or aftermarket head unit. The Type-S speakers also use an HD polymer frame for improved sound and installation, while a high-performance soft dome tweeter provides smooth, detailed sound. Cosmetically, the Type-S speakers look good behind factory grilles or can be used with the new hybrid mesh grilles (sold separately) for a customized look. The SPS-610C component 2-way speaker and SPS-610 coaxial 2-way speaker frames incorporate several screw hole patterns, for easy match up to various vehicles and their proprietary hole patterns. An additional adapter plate is also provided, for even more extensive vehicle compatibility.

Type-X Speakers

The top-of-the-line Type-X speakers provide a dynamic, precise sound experience in the car for true audiophiles. The speakers are available in two types, Pro and Reference, and their advanced crossover network allows users to customize their listening experience.
