Alpine’s Subwoofer Line Continues To Grow

Expanding on its already extensive array of subwoofer offerings, Alpine, today announced another addition to its lineup. For the first time, 8-inch models will join the Type-R subwoofer line. Proving that power can come in small packages, these new subwoofers will create opportunities for creative installation options.

New 8-inch Models Added To Type-R Lineup

At only 4.5 inches deep and 8 inches in diameter, the new Type-R 8-inch subwoofers (SWR-0823D and SWR-0843D) are ideal for cramped quarters. Ideal for installation in door panels, trucks, or other tight spaces, the 8-inch subwoofers use technologies found in Type-R subwoofers and incorporate them in a smaller package. The 8-inch subwoofers have over 14mm of linear excursion for high output in small ported or sealed enclosures and handle up to 350W RMS.

Alpine SWR-1243D

Type-R subwoofers are proven and durable. Besides the new 8-inch size, Type-R subwoofers come in 10-inch (SWR-1023D and SWR-1043D), 12-inch (SWR-1223D and SWR-1243D) and 15-inch (SWR-1522D and SWR-1542D) models. Known for clean, deep bass and low frequency extension in small enclosures, these popular subwoofers are dependable performers. Using Alpine’s patent pending High-Amplitude Multi Roll (HAMR) surround and patented thermal management technology, the Type-R subwoofers run with cooler operation, higher output and longer life.

The Type-R subwoofers all have large, high temperature voice coils which allow for increased power handling, making them ideal for pairing with the Alpine PDX digital amplifiers. The HAMR surround design also allows for extreme excursion without sacrificing cone area.

The subwoofers are constructed from a single piece cast aluminum frame and shorting sleeve, for a unique design that provides minimum inductance variance and reduced thermal compression. Cooling of the entire motor assembly is achieved from the innovative radial fins, leading to maximum cooling of the voice coil and reduced thermal compression.

Type-R Thin Subwoofers

Alpine continues to offer the innovative Type-R Thin subwoofers, the 10-inch SWR-T10 and 12-inch SWR-T12. These thin subwoofers are only 3.25 and 3.5 inches deep respectively, yet can handle the same power and provide the same output of traditional subwoofers thanks to their revolutionary segmented spider and neodymium motor design. Using Alpine’s patent pending Pass-Through Gap Geometry, the unique Thermoplastic Elastomer Segmented Spider passes completely through the motor structure. This gives the cone and voice coil assembly the physical clearance needed to achieve over 50 mm of peak-to-peak excursion.

Their small size allows them to be housed in enclosures as small as 0.25 cubic feet for the SWR-T10 and 0.5 cubic feet for the SWR-T12. The small enclosure size creates various possibilities for installation locations beyond the traditional trunk area or hatch corners. Installation options include mounting a Type-R Thin subwoofer in a custom door panel, inside or under the glove box, in a custom headliner enclosure, under a seat, or even under a custom center console.

Type-X Subwoofers

For true audio enthusiasts, Alpine’s line up of Type-X subwoofers is also available. Thanks to a powerful motor, HAMR surround and ultra-strong Kevlar® parabolic cone with Rohacell® core, these subs produce incredible output. For high power handling with low power compression, they feature an 80mm six-layer aluminum voice coil and extensive thermal management technology. Easily accessible insert terminals and voice coil configuration jumpers make for quick installation and concealed mount gaskets add a polished look.

Type-S Subwoofers

For consumers seeking a quality yet economical upgrade to factory sound systems, the Type-S subwoofers provide tight, accurate bass while having a shallow mounting depth for flexible installation options. Their advanced airflow system has a stamped steel basket design with perimeter venting and leg venting cooling for sustained bass reproduction without overheating.

Type-E Subwoofers

Type-E subwoofers are simple add-ons for factory sound systems. They offer an affordable and attractive bass boost.
