Clarion Announces Introduction Of DriveEye Window-Mounted Digital Video Recorder
Clarion, a manufacturer of high quality rear-view cameras, monitors and accessories, announces DriveEye, an on-window Digital Video Recorder for recording accidents and encouraging driver awareness for safer driving.
DriveEye, when triggered by impact or rapid acceleration / deceleration, records 20 seconds of video before, during and after the incident (15 seconds before impact or trigger and 5 seconds after) at 30 frames per second. DriveEye produces a high quality video that is stored on an included Compact Flash card. This encoded video can only be viewed with included viewing software, and is securely-encrypted so that it can be used as evidence in legal or insurance issues arising from the incident. The driver can also manually trigger the DriveEye. The g-force trigger, used to measure impact force or rapid acceleration/deceleration, is adjustable for different types of vehicles. Up to 12 separate incidents can be stored on the CF card.

DriveEye is housed in a rugged magnesium alloy body, about the size of a radar detector, and is mounted to the front windshield behind the rear view mirror using high strength double-sided tape. It is connected to the vehicle’s ignition and ground, and is activated automatically when the vehicle is started. It has an internal backup power supply that will ensure complete video recording of an incident, even if vehicle power is cut as of a result of the incident. DriveEye’s camera lens angle is adjustable in four steps. You can adjust the lens based on the angle of the windshield for an optimum field of view.
“DriveEye is ideal for the fleet, taxi, rental car, or delivery service side of the industry,” stated Jeff Abrams, Director of Special Markets. “For a modest investment, you can save up to thousands of dollars in insurance costs or lawsuits by having video evidence of the incident. DriveEye can also record dangerous driving situations such as sudden acceleration or braking. It will encourage driver awareness which can result in safer driving, and reduced fuel costs”.
