Alpine Ships Highly Anticipated IVA-W505 Mobile Multimedia Station

Alpine announced its IVA-W505 Mobile Multimedia Station™ ($1,100 SRI) is now shipping to authorized Alpine dealers in the U.S. and Canada. The IVA-W505 is a full-featured DVD/CD/MP3/AAC/WMA/DivX audio/video head unit that boasts a new, intuitive graphical interface and touch-screen control over virtually any digital media source in the car, as well as Bluetooth® connectivity. The 2-DIN unit also serves as the in-dash docking station for Alpine’s PMD-B200 Blackbird portable navigation device, enabling consumers to enjoy the car-to-car convenience of a portable unit while also gaining the myriad benefits of a fixed navigation system.

“The IVA-W505 is the ultimate navigation and entertainment command center for the vehicle,” said Stephen Witt, vice president, marketing and product planning, Alpine Electronics. “It can serve as a base for an audio/video plus navigation system, and it is one of two Alpine in-dash units that offer the new iTunes Tagging feature.”

Intuitive User Interface and Comprehensive Source Connectivity

The IVA-W505’s 7-inch WVGA touch-screen monitor enables users to easily access and control all their favorite media sources from one place. As an Ai-NET source unit, the IVA-W505 can connect to and control all of today’s most popular digital entertainment sources and communication formats, including satellite radio, HD Radio™ with multicasting, MP3/WMA players with MTP protocol and mass storage devices, and Bluetooth hands-free calling. (Separate adapters and/or subscriptions required.)

The IVA-W505 connects to iPod classic, iPod video (fifth generation), iPod nano (first through third generations) or iPod Touch via a direct high-speed USB connection.

Enhanced iPod Functionality

The IVA-W505 is one of two 2008 Alpine in-dash head units that feature iTunes® Tagging in collaboration with HD Radio, which makes it easy for listeners to discover and catalog new music they hear while driving. When the Alpine TUA-T550HD HD Radio Tuner is connected (sold separately), consumers simply press a button on the IVA-W505 when they hear a song they like from an HD Radio station that is broadcasting metadata. Information about these Tagged songs is stored by the TUA-T550HD and transferred to the iPod. When the iPod is connected to the computer, iTunes automatically presents the songs in a new Tagged playlist so the user can preview, buy and download the Tagged songs.

The IVA-W505 connects to iPod classic, iPod video (fifth generation), iPod nano (first through third generations) or iPod Touch via a direct high-speed USB connection. Earlier-generation iPods with a dock connector can link to the IVA-W505 via Alpine’s KCE-422i Full Speed Connection for iPod cable (sold separately). The IVA-W505 can control and play back video from iPod classic, iPod video (fifth generation), iPod nano (third generation) and iPod Touch.

Highly Flexible Navigation Options

The IVA-W505 serves as the in-dash docking station for the PMD-B200 Blackbird portable navigation device (sold separately). The IVA-W505’s motorized faceplate slides down to a 90-degree angle to reveal a DVD/CD slot and dedicated Blackbird slot. Once the Blackbird is docked inside, all of its navigation features and user controls are transferred to the IVA-W505’s larger touch screen display, creating a fully integrated audio/video plus navigation (AV+N) in-dash system. Since the Blackbird comes with Bluetooth hands-free calling, the Bluetooth capabilities are also accessible through the IVA-W505 when the Blackbird is docked.
