Alpine Announces 2014 Subwoofer Lineup

Alpine is adding to its subwoofer and enclosure offerings by debuting five new models at the 2014 International CES, held Jan. 7-10 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The company’s wide assortment of subwoofers and enclosures include new models designed specifically for use in trucks. The company also debuted a new audio/video/navigation (AVN) system with a 9-inch screen especially for use in trucks and SUVs, so using the system with the new truck subwoofers creates a complete ecosystem tailored for these vehicles.

New Subwoofers And Enclosures

The SWT-10S4 and SWT-10S2 are 4-ohm and 2-ohm 10-inch truck subwoofers, especially designed to fit and sound great in truck applications. Their shallow 4.1-inch mounting depth allows them to be installed in tight spaces such as behind or under a seat. They are optimized for shallow enclosures, whether ported or sealed designs, giving the user even more flexibility for installation. Despite their shallow profile, these subwoofers generate big output at 350W RMS power handling and 11mm X-MAX excursion.

Three new subwoofer enclosures will be available in 2014. The SBT-S10V is a wedge-shaped truck subwoofer enclosure outfitted with the SWT-10S2 subwoofer. Its cabin is designed for optimum performance and measures just 16 inches high, 22 inches wide and 7 inches deep, so its compact size is ideal to fit behind or under a seat. The ported enclosure design handles 350W RMS for loud, low frequency output. The SBT-S10V’s 2-ohm impedance ensures maximum output from most mono subwoofer amplifiers. The embroidered Alpine badges on the front and bottom of the SBT-S10V allow the logo to be visible whether the enclosure is mounted vertically or horizontally.

The PWE-S8 compact powered subwoofer consists of an 8-inch subwoofer and 120W amplifier in a cast metal housing. This all-in-one design has a small footprint of just 9 inches high, 13 ½ inches wide and 3 inches deep so it can be mounted almost anywhere in a truck. The side panel offers easy access to RCA and auto-sensing speaker inputs. The side panel also gives access to Phase, Gain, LP Crossover and Remote Sub Level controls for greater flexibility during installation.

The PWA-S10V is a powered subwoofer enclosure. It features a 10-inch BASSLINE subwoofer mounted with an MRV-M250 amplifier in a ported enclosure, eliminating the need to install a separate amplifier. The 2-ohm BASSLINE subwoofer and MRV-M250 amplifier combine to create 250 watts of total system power. The PWA-S10V is compatible with the remote bass knob (RUX-KNOB, sold separately) for convenient bass adjustment from the dash. The PWA-S10V comes with a BASSLINE grill, providing a stylish and protective finish to the subwoofer.

Overall, Alpine has increased its offering of subwoofers and enclosures to 24 models. The various products represent a wide array of features, technologies, bass styles and budgets.

Type-R Subwoofers

These high-performing and durable subwoofers provide impressive output and sound quality, using Alpine’s exclusive patented technology that reduces distortion and maximizes musical detail. They feature Alpine’s H.A.M.R. (High Amplitude Multi-Roll Surround) technology, which produces tight control and extreme excursion without sacrificing cone area. The surround and powerful CRC motor structure designs provide over 2 ½-inches of peak-to-peak excursion and up to 20 mm linear X-MAX for incredibly deep and clean bass.

Type-S Subwoofers

The popular Type-S subwoofers have H.A.M.R. technology, 500W RMS power handling and a full feature set for powerful output and sound quality. They can withstand extreme use even in vented enclosures. Their optimized suspension design allows for nearly 2 ½-inches of peak-to-peak cone travel to produce high output and tight, accurate bass.

BASSLINE Subwoofers And Grills

BASSLINE subwoofers offer deep, hard-hitting bass at budget-friendly prices. There are two BASSLINE subwoofers, a 12-inch and 10-inch version, and each model is capable of handling 250W RMS/750W peak performance power. New this year are grills designed especially for the BASSLINE subwoofers. Made of thick ABS plastic, the grills have an attractive two-tone gloss with textured finish and come with the needed hardware for convenience during installation.
