Pioneer Gm-series Mono Amplifiers Go Digital
Pioneer Electronics Inc. today launched two mono Class-D amplifiers to join its family of GM-series car stereo amplifiers. These new amplifiers are designed to combine high power output and high efficiency while simultaneously producing the high-fidelity audio Pioneer is known for. The GM-D7400M and GM-D8400M digital mono amplifiers, intended for powering large subwoofers, use digital technology that make them 80-95 percent more efficient than conventional class A/B amplifiers. Due to the increased efficiency, the physical size of the new amplifiers was also reduced by 45 percent, making them more compact and easier to install.

“Adding an amplifier to an in-car entertainment system can dramatically change the overall listening experience, breathing new life into the audio system regardless of whether it is installed in an older car or one fresh off the dealer’s lot. A better sounding car audio system equates to a better driving experience,” said Larry Rougas, vice president of marketing and product planning for the mobile business group of Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. “With these GM series digital amplifiers along with our shallow subwoofers, consumers no longer need to sacrifice space to add more bass.”
The GM-D7400M and GM-D8400M also feature block-style terminals that allow power and speaker cables to be securely connected to the amplifier without the use of crimped-on spade terminals. In the 2- and 4-channel versions, the amplifiers accept speaker-level inputs for easy integration to factory OEM audio systems.

Sounds Great, Looks Good
For many car audio enthusiasts, looks are as important as sound quality, and Pioneer’s GM series of amplifiers offer a smooth, refined look. Each has a black heat sink complemented by a brushed aluminum center and blue LED power indicator. Large cast aluminum heat sinks are used for increased heat dissipation for cooler operation with tremendous reliability. Oversized power terminals and speaker level inputs offer more flexibility in installation while the built-in crossovers provide better audio control.
